Duck Creek Interceptor Project The first phase of the wastewater system upgrade is underway. The City of Garland is constructing the new interceptor system to provide enough capacity to handle expected growth in the City. The $41.4 million Duck Creek Interceptor Project will transport wastewater to the Duck Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant. The entire project will take 18 months to complete and will handle future wastewater flow volumes for the ultimate build-out of residential and business development in the City of Garland. The project is a cooperative effort between the City of Garland, the Texas Water Development Board, the U.S. Corps of Engineers, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Department, the Town of Sunnyvale, the Garland Parks Board and Parks Department, and individual landowners.
Project Timeline Section I is the Rowlett Wastewater Treatment Plant. Tunneling under roadways began in September. Laying the 48 inch Transfer Line & 8 inch Sludge Line to begin in November 2007. The schedule shows the pipe at Duck Creek Way & Oates by March 2008. Section II is the 48 inch gravity sewer line from Glenbrook/Briarwood to Duck Creek Way at Oates. Construction in the creek bed channel has a start in November 2007 and complete in April 2008. Section III is the 60/66 inch gravity line from the Duck Creek WWTP. Tunneling began in September, continuing through February 2008. Laying the 60/66” pipe begins in November 2007 and continues to August 2008. The 48” gravity & 48” Transfer Line connect to the 60 inch at Duck Creek at Oates. The Eastern Hills Interceptor Line tunneling begins in March 2008 and laying pipe begins in June 2008 and connects to the 48 inch Transfer Line in September 2008. Sodding, hydromulch, and miscellaneous cleanup have a project completion date of December 2008. Weather, especially rain, will cause delays to the timeline.
