Does the Library have computers I can use?
The Nicholson Memorial Library System offers computers to access the Internet, to search Online Databases, to use office productivity software, and to access educational software for children. A valid Library card is required to use these computers.
The Library also has laptops for patrons to use within any Library. Patrons who are over 18 years of age, have had a Library card longer than 30 days, and have a valid Texas photo ID or Driver's License may check out a laptop for up to 2 hours per day. Laptops may only be used inside the Library. Please bring a CD/DVD or USB memory if you need to save your work. < back to top

How do I get a Nicholson Memorial Library System card?
A Library card is available to residents of Garland and surrounding communities. Bring a current official photo ID with your correct address to any Library location.
If you had a card and need to replace it bring your current ID and a $2.00 replacement fee to any Garland Library and get a new card. People residing outside of Northeast Texas may get a 30-day Visitor card. Visitors cannot check out materials but can use the Internet via PCs within any Library or through our wireless access. How do I renew my library materials?
There are many ways to renew your library materials.
1. You can call the 24 hour TeleCirc Service to renew titles, list what you have checked out, and access other information on your library account. TeleCirc: 972-205-2514.
2. You can call the Circulation Department during open hours and renew your material over the phone. Call 972-205-2524.
3. Access the "My Account" information in the the Library's online catalog. Click here to go to the online catalog.
4. Renew your items in person at the Circulation Desk of your local branch of the Nicholson Memorial Library System.

How much are overdue fines? Item: Loan Period: Late charge: Books 21 days $0.30 each for every day late Audio & CD Books 21 days $0.30 each for every day late Videos & DVDs 7 days $1.00 each for every day late Each item has a maximum $10 fine limit. For example, if you have 5 items overdue the maximum you will pay is $50 when they are returned. If you lose, damage or don’t return an item you will be charged the cost to replace it plus a $5 processing fee. In order for you or your child to use library computers, your account and your child’s account must not have fines in excess of $10. When fines reach $10.01 on any account, the account becomes delinquent until the fine is paid. The Library has Internet computers and wireless access for all card holders in good standing. Educational software workstations are for use by children 12 years old or younger.

How do I get a new Key Tag Library Card?
Anyone getting their first library card will now get both a wallet card and a key tag card.
Any patron who wishes to replace their current yellow wallet card with a new wallet card/key tag card combo will be required to pay a $2.00 replacement fee.
Any patron who still has a silver wallet card can upgrade for free upon renewal of their card.
