The Nicholson Memorial Library System Invites You to an Open House at the South Garland Branch


Saturday, January 10
 
Recent renovations have enhanced the public spaces of South Garland Branch Library and nonpublic space has been converted to make more room for patrons. 
 
  • Six new group study rooms
  • New magazine/newspaper reading area
  • Cozy quiet reading room
  • New area for audio and video materials
  • Coffee and soft drink vending area
  • New teen room
  • Enlarged new book area with laptop chairs
    Program:
     
    10:00 a.m. Welcome by City officials
     
    10:10 a.m. New areas open to the public
                   
    10:30 a.m. E-Flat Porch Band, in conjunction with a Storytelling Concert.  Storytellers: Kortney Nelson, Malia Moore and Bill Raley 
                     
    Refreshments provided by the Friends of the Library

    You've Got Homework.  We've Got Help.


    Live Homework Help 
     
    Learners of all ages can now get one-on-one live web-based homework help from real tutors.
     
    Grades K-12, college introductory courses, and Adult Learners can get help in:
    Math
    Science
    English
    Social Studies 

    The Adult Learner selection will support those earning their GED, taking adult education courses, seeking grammar help with their resume or a work-related project, and more.  Live Homework Help tutors will assist parents and their early learners in core skill development.

    Online tutoring is available free to Garland library card holders in English from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily.  Spanish-speaking tutors are available for math, science and social studies Sunday through Thursday 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. 
     
    Live Homework Help works with PCs and MACs and can be viewed using Internet Explorer, Safari or Firefox.  Students will need to download Flash (free browser plug-in) to use Live Homework Help.
