20th Annual "Taste of Garland" (2009) Garland Crime Stoppers is an organization designed to support the Garland Police Department along with other law enforcement agencies. The Board's goal is to aid in the suppression of crime and apprehension of lawbreakers. The Crime Stopper Board is made up of local residents and business people who volunteer their time in an effort to make a safer community. The Board meets once a month to review ongoing business of the Garland Crime Stopper program along with hearing cases and awarding money on crime related Tips. 2008 was the biggest year to date in several areas for Garland Crime Stoppers. The Board awarded over $19,000, a new record, in rewards for 34 arrests, another new record, that cleared cases of theft, drugs and up to capital murder. Garland Crime Stoppers also hosts an annual fund raising event; “Taste of Garland”. Area restaurants participate in the event by showing off their variety of delicious foods.
