Patrol operations is divided into three (3) eight hour shifts. The city is divided into two geographic areas. Miller Road is the dividing line of north and south. The north and south areas are divided into two (2) sectors. Each sector has six districts or patrol beats. Patrol officers are assigned geographic responsibility to a specific district during their tour of duty. Patrol personnel are distributed between the three shifts based on workload. A captain is assigned command responsibility for each shift. Patrol operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, providing professional police service to the citizens of Garland.
